Introduction

A pelleted food supplement designed to maintain hoof integrity and growth.

Farriers Aid contains all the elements needed to maintain hoof integrity and growth, including natural emulsifiers to support the absorption of trace elements. These include:

Collagen Matrix - Collagen is the most abundant protein in animals and forms the main protein of connective tissue. It has great tensile strength and is the main component of ligaments and tendons. Collagen also acts as the body's glue. It sticks teeth to gums and forms the framework that allows tissues to grow and wounds to heal.

A complex structure like the hoof of the equine and the pressures it endures will include substantial supportive networks of tissues, as a basis for hoof integrity.

Biotin - Shown by extensive trial work to aid the hardening of hoof horn and so prevent cracking. It is an essential requirement for keratin production in the hoof, laminae and the coronary band and is critical to maintain overall hoof integrity and condition.

Biotin has been shown to influence growth and the utilisation of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. The horses hoof is over 90% protein so utilisation of proteins for growth areas of hardened tissues like hair, horn and hoof is very important. Antagonists found in feed and the environment can also affect Biotin absorption and increase apparent requirements.

MSM - MSM or Methylsulfonylmethane is a natural organic source of sulphur that is an essential constituent of amino acids and protein. Most sulphur is found in high protein organs and tissues, like hair and hooves and it is indicative that, to form these high protein tissues, a supply of organic sulphur is necessary to maintain this metabolic function. Amino acids containing sulphur are called essential amino acids because the horse is unable to manufacture its own, they have to be supplied from the diet. Sulphur is required for the conversion of dietary proteins into tissue proteins, like keratin, for maintaining hoof integrity.

Zinc - Zinc is involved either directly or indirectly with almost every metabolic function in all animals. It acts in conjunction with enzymes and affects growth, development, reproduction, bone and blood formation and the metabolism of proteins and carbohydrates. Horses with poor horn quality have been seen to respond when extra zinc has been added to their diet. It helps to maintain keratin, which is the fibrous protein that gives the wall of the hoof its hardness. The amount of keratin found in hooves can vary and this determines how tough the wall of the hoof is.

Vitamin C, Manganese & Copper - All three are essential to maintaining the growth of tendons and ligaments, the formation of cartilage and the elasticity of connective tissue. It is very important for the working horse to maintain its freedom of movement and suppleness when in motion. The correct placement of the hoof during exercise is an integral part of supporting normal foot health and preventing injuries and physical damage.

Oatinol™ - For all of the above to be utilised your horse has to be able to absorb these vitamins and trace elements from its digestive tract. Oatinol™ provides natural emulsifiers and membrane fats that maintain a healthy gut lining and support a high absorption rate of the end products of digestion.

Yeast cell wall concentrated soluble fibre - oligosaccharide, non-digestible sugars that can support macrophage activity against the presence of environmental and/or feed derived foreign materials that can be harmful to both health and physical condition.
